The UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Management of Conservation Areas (MCA) at Carinthia University of
Applied Sciences shall provide excellent research and inspiring learning experiences for nature conservation
in the 21st century. Its interdisciplinary team shall become an internationally visible hub for excellence, inno-
vation and new technologies in nature conservation with a particular focus on the management of conserva-
tion areas. Our work is based on an international, transdisciplinary, holistic and integrated understanding of
conservation areas, as advocated and exemplified by UNESCO Biosphere Reserves, (natural) UNESCO World

Ecologist/Biologist for biodiversity monitoring (m/f/d)
Job profile and tasks
In a research project, we will develop, test and apply new methods and technologies for biodiversity monitor-
ing. You will support the team to develop new workflows for biodiversity monitoring. In addition, you can
contribute to the development of a platform to share experiences in biodiversity monitoring with other sci-
entists. You will analyse, compile and publish research findings. Furthermore, you will have the opportunity
to develop follow-up projects.
These competencies and qualifications are required:

Minimum academic qualification (master) in ecology or similar, with a strong focus on biodiversity
monitoring
Very good knowledge of methods in biodiversity monitoring (sampling design, field surveys, analysis,
species identification)
Experience in data handling and analysis (databases, GIS, statistical analysis (i.e. R)), “basic program-
ming skills are a plus”
Good command of English, spoken and written
In addition, we expect a proven ability to work in interdisciplinary teams, enthusiasm for the subject com-
bined with reliability and accuracy.
