The UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Management of Conservation Areas (MCA) at Carinthia University of Applied Sci-
ences provides excellent research and inspiring learning experiences for nature conservation in the 21st century. Its in-
terdisciplinary team has become an internationally visible hub for excellence, innovation and new technologies in nature
conservation with a particular focus on the management of conservation areas. Our work is based on an international,
transdisciplinary, holistic and integrated understanding of conservation areas, as advocated and exemplified by

Coordination Research-Project BioBox - Junior Researcher (m/f/d)
Job profile and tasks
Brief: Support the management and coordination of the Interreg BioBox project, focusing on research activities and
collaboration with Italian partners. The BioBox project aims to enhance biodiversity in urban and rural areas through
replicable, low-cost measures for private and public users. Your role includes coordinating pilot implementations, mon-
itoring activities, and public awareness campaigns, with a particular focus on technological aspects of biodiversity mon-
itoring.
Tasks: Supporting research and management activities of the BioBox project.

Coordinating with cross-border partners in Austria and Italy.
Assisting in the development, implementation, and monitoring of biodiversity measures at pilot sites.
Managing communication, documentation, reporting, and administrative tasks related to the project.
Supporting public awareness campaigns to promote the importance of biodiversity.
Contributing expertise on technological monitoring methods, including optical and acoustic sensors.
Your profile
Expertise in biodiversity within urban and rural environments, with a strong understanding of the selected species
groups (birds, mammals, insects) and the application of modern technologies for monitoring.

A bachelor´s / master’s degree in a relevant field, such as environmental sciences, ecology, biodiversity re-
search, or a related discipline.
Good knowledge of technology-supported monitoring methods (e.g. acoustic sensors, camera traps, i-natural-
ists, etc.) and the relevant tools for analysis.

Good knowledge of practical conservation measure in urban areas.
Good IT skills and excellent proficiency in English, Italian, and German.
Experience in project coordination, preferably with international or cross-border projects.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Highly team-oriented with a precise, reliable work ethic and a strong sense of scientific curiosity.
Open-minded and eager to explore (experimental) applications of new technologies.
